Wellbeing
We have two well-being coordinators (counselors) at school, one in the Primary School, and one in the Secondary School. They lead in the teaching of our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) programs as well as providing social and emotional counseling for our students. Students can self-refer, or be referred by a teacher or parent.
At HHIS , student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. As an inclusive international school, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where every student feels able to seek help when they need it. Our PSHE curriculum is thoughtfully designed around our student body and school environment. It addresses real-world issues in a way that is age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and relevant to our international context. Our Wellbeing provision is designed to provide a safe space for students to share their experiences, develop self-awareness, and build a personal toolkit for life beyond school. We offer a range of support tailored to individual needs, including:
- One-to-one, person-centered counselling, using techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Clean Language
- Consultations with teachers and parents to support a joined-up approach
- Educational workshops and parent sessions on relevant wellbeing topics
- Referrals to external services when extra specialist or long-term support is needed
- Guidance for school transfers and university applications with emotional wellbeing in mind
In the primary school , our wellbeing curriculum is underpinned by Kelso’s Choices and The Zones of Regulation, helping students develop emotional literacy, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills from an early age. In the secondary school, students have access to a dedicated one-to-one wellbeing drop-in space, offering confidential support and guidance during the school day. We understand that each situation is unique. Some students may benefit from brief interventions, while others may require ongoing support. Where appropriate, we work closely with trusted external professionals to ensure the best outcomes.
As a truly international school, we deeply value cultural diversity and strive to respect and understand every background. Where English is not a student’s first language, we can offer interpreter support to ensure clear, compassionate communication.
