Early Years
Early Years 3 to 5 Years
In Early Years, we nurture each child’s natural curiosity with a child-led, holistic approach. We believe children thrive when they can explore a rich, natural environment that fosters creativity and independence.
Our setting supports strong communication and meaningful relationships between children, staff, and families. Outdoor learning is a key part of our curriculum, where children use open-ended resources to spark imagination, challenge their physical skills, and develop problem-solving.
We provide a safe, stimulating environment where children gain confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning through play and discovery.
Early Years Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum follows the English Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, guiding learning and development from birth to five years.
The EYFS focuses on three Prime Areas that lay the foundation for all learning:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
These support four Specific Areas that build children’s knowledge and skills:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
As children grow, their skills deepen in the Prime and Specific Areas, helping them work towards the Early Learning Goals by the end of the Early Years phase.
Discovering how children learn is just as important as what they learn. We focus on the Characteristics of Effective Learning, supporting children in developing these key traits:
- Playing and Exploring – trying new things and being curious
- Active Learning – focusing, persevering, and feeling proud
- Creating and Thinking Critically – having ideas, making connections, and solving problems
Every child is unique and progresses at their own pace. To celebrate and share each child’s special learning moments, we use an online Learning Journal, which also helps us track their development and keep parents closely involved in their journey.
