Message from the Headteacher |
Our school vision "inspiring success for all” comes alive in this newsletter. At HHIS we recognise that this success can be demonstrated in many different ways: that each student is an individual. Traditionally, schools have measured success primarily through academic outcomes such as exam results. Of course, these remain important. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students have been taking their mock IGCSE and IB Diploma exams in these first two weeks of school, helping them to prepare for their final exams later on this year.
We also know that success extends far beyond exam results. This newsletter celebrates some of the many ways our inspiring students are living out our vision and following their passions. As well as sports and music competitions, our students have had the opportunity to share their talents in regional competitions in art, writing and now for the first time in chess. We were so proud to send off our chess team to their first ever competition in Bangkok.
This newsletter also celebrates success that is not connected to competition: success connected to community action and service learning with a visit to Hua Hin Municipality to find out about local challenges including waste management, and a Year 6 language exchange visit to Baan Nong Hiang School. Learning how to make a positive change in our world is an important part of our curriculum and reminds us that success is also about the positive impact we have on others. |

First Ever Chess Tournament |
Our school chess team made an impressive debut at the FOBISIA Chess Competition held at Shrewsbury International, Bangkok. Representing HHIS with pride, nine of our students from Year 6 through Year 12 competed in nine intense rounds against a field of over 300 players from across Asia.
We are immensely proud of our competitors: Artem, Lucas N., Lucas V. (Y6); Gamal, Maxi, Tin Tin (Y7); Jamie (Y8); Zen (Y9); and Pun (Y12). Beyond their exemplary sportsmanship throughout the intense rounds, the team enjoyed an unforgettable trip, gaining invaluable experience and building wonderful new friendships with players from all over Asia. Congratulations to all nine students. |

IGCSE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES - COMMUNITY ACTION AND COLLABORATION |
Six of our Year 10 students recently visited Hua Hin Municipality as part of their IGCSE Global Perspectives project, meeting with Thanatat Chaikaw, Director of the Division of Public Health and Environment.
The Global Perspectives project requires students to identify a global issue through research, gathering evidence of different viewpoints using both primary and secondary research methods. Using their findings, students can then plan and implement action aimed at addressing the issue.
During the visit, students focused on key local challenges linked to global concerns, including food waste, plastic waste separation, and shoreline pollution. Mr Thanatat was extremely welcoming and informative, highlighting that raising public awareness is a crucial part of improving waste management and he encouraged our students to continue their efforts beyond the project itself.
Students also gained insight into upcoming waste management initiatives planned for Hua Hin. A particularly useful takeaway was learning that households separating waste must notify the municipality, as separated rubbish is collected by a different vehicle. Here are the contact details for the municipality - we thank Mr Thanatat and his team for all their support. |

Building Bridges through Service Learning |
Year 6 recently had their first visit to Baan Nong Hiang School, as part of our service learning project. The students had the opportunity to exchange greetings in Thai and English and get to know the students at the school. This project will continue over the next four weeks, giving our students an opportunity to connect classroom knowledge to real-world contexts, enhance communication and teamwork, as well as a deeper cultural awareness. |

Year 5 kicked off their new unit on sustainable buildings with a hands-on hook task using recycled materials, where they were challenged to build a structure that could stand independently. As challenges were introduced, students demonstrated an intrepid mindset by taking risks, adapting their designs, and trying out new solutions. The task encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and reflection on the real-life decisions architects make when designing sustainably. |

International Dance Success - Aung Year 9 |
We are very proud to celebrate the successes of Aung. Over the recent years Aung has participated in numerous dance competitions across Asia. In August 2025 she triumphed at a major international event that took place at the prestigious and iconic venue, Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, UKl.
As a celebration of her progress and achievements, Aung attended an award ceremony at the Ministry of Education, where awards were presented by the Minister of Education to children and young adults who have brought recognition and honour to Thailand. This is wonderful recognition of her hard work and dedication.
Aung has another major dance event in January and we wish her continued success. Well done Aung!
