Message from the Headteacher

The newsletter is full of exciting and inspiring highlights from a very busy week. Yesterday we were lucky to have spoken-word performance artist Sean Elliott visiting the school.  Sean collaborates with schools across Asia, teaching performance skills through the lens of spoken poetry. Our students from Years 7 to 10 enjoyed a full day of poetry and artistic expression, culminating in students performing their poetry to their peers at the end of the day.

The next two and a half weeks, until our mid term break, look to be just as busy. We have two bands performing in the FOBISIA Battle of the Bands finals in Bangkok this weekend: we wish them the best of luck.

On Friday 13th February we will be celebrating the Lunar New Year festival, welcoming in the Year of the Horse. There are lots of fun activities planned including a visit from the lion dancers. We are inviting everyone to wear red, or appropriate traditional dress, on that day.

To keep up with everything that is happening in our school, please make sure you follow us on our social media platforms linked above.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has completed the important information form asking for updated medical information for your children.

Here is the link to the form if you have yet to do so.

Inspired by Poetry

Our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students enjoyed a wonderfully imaginative day working together across a range of activities and workshops. The day started with an assembly led by Sean Elliott, our guest at HHIS for the day.

Following assembly, students were able to develop their ideas and skills working with Sean and their teachers. In visiting our classes, students confidently discussed their work and how to be successful in their learning. In our art rooms, students enjoyed creating their own moodboard designs linked to their personal poetry that they had developed through English lessons this term. Students explained that the 'moodboarding' allowed them to share their ideas together and bring out their inner creativity.

The black out poetry workshop provided a great opportunity for individual flair as students selected key words from sentences and passages of text to construct new meaning. This was a great way to develop ideas together and think outside the box.

There was also a line art exchange activity which was truly collaborative as students shared parts of their work with each other and discussed the emotion and meanings behind the words. This was a really great way to connect different views and celebrate the diversity of the amazing poetry written by our students.

A further highlight was the workshop led by Sean who shared ideas with students for how they can use body language, pace, pauses and emotion to communicate and connect with the audience when sharing their work. The results were then clear when student volunteers presented their work at the end of the day - every student received huge applause by their peers and rightly so.

The day was a great celebration of poetry and a wonderful showcase that everyone has a voice. Written and spoken words can say so much and create connection and new meaning. We thank Sean for his time and we thank all our teachers for their energy and support across the day. Our students were inspired.

Year 4 Field Trip to WWFT

Last Friday, Year 4 visited the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) to enrich our topic: Human Impact on Natural Habitats. When we arrived, a guide welcomed us and explained the safety rules before showing us around many of the enclosures and introducing us to the animals and their often tragic histories. We saw rescued elephants, gibbons, tortoises, macaques, deer, crocodiles and even a majestic tiger. It was uplifting to see the work WFFT is doing to improve the quality of life of these animals, and it showed that humans can have a positive as well as a negative influence. After a tasty lunch, we returned to school with a much greater understanding of how human behaviour impacts the habitats and lives of these animals. A big well done to Y4 children, who were complimented on their excellent behaviour by fellow visitors.

Year 6 Getting to the Heart of Learning

To consolidate their learning of the circulatory system and the heart, Y6 students enjoyed some time in the Secondary Science labs. Dot. Mo, from Be Well Clinic, guided the students through a dissection of a pig's heart, carefully showing the four chambers and valves, and demonstrating how to dissect a heart. The students then all got a chance to dissect a pig's heart. A wonderful opportunity to put learning into practice and links to our local community.

Primary Student Council - new members for 2026

Our new student council members met this week to discuss ideas so they can help lead and guide ideas for the Primary School. We thank Abigail, Nikita, Karl, Pieter, Larissa, Alyssa, and Kirill for their positive energy and team approach in helping to finish decorating our buddy bench. The students are keen to continue promoting the inclusive spirit of our school. The student leadership team are also keen to get involved in the first ever HHIS Yearbook. They will be helping to share details of the front page design competition with their classes and they are also going to work with Ms Laura to design page content. It’s been a great start for our Primary Student Council - well done!

Year 11 - Early Entrance IGCSE Maths

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of six of our Year 11 students who sat their IGCSE Mathematics examination early in November and have now received their excellent results. Their hard work, dedication, and resilience have truly paid off, with four students achieving the top grade of A* and two students achieving a well-deserved A grade. We are extremely proud of their commitment and success.

Swimming

Last weekend, our Hawks swimmers Asia (Year 12) and Carro (Year 7) represented the school and Prachuap Khiri Khan Province at the National Youth Games in Ang Thong Province. The event provided valuable national-level experience, and although they did not qualify for the Youth Region competition, both swimmers demonstrated dedication, resilience, and a positive sporting attitude reflecting the true spirit of school sport and preparation for future success.

Duke of Edinburgh

This week we celebrate three students who have achieved their Duke of Edinburgh International Awards.  Congratulations to Malika and Michelle who achieved their bronze award and to Alice who achieved the silver.
